Synopsis

Starring with two young and fresh main actresses, this is a beautiful film depicting a delicate social problem from a young women director's perspective through medical artist by profession. The budding director, Momoko Ando with a Japanese emotional sensibility and a slight British edge, main staffs and supporting casts who are at the forefront of the Japanese film industry create a unique view of the world with startling realness and a slight fantastic splash. James Iha, a guitarist in the former The Smashing Pumpkins joins as a music director. His delicate soundtrack floating over imageries of the different pulses of the day to day life of a girl beats out an emotionally stirring rhythm.

About the Director

Born 1982 in Tokyo. Studied at Cambridge Arts and Sciences, earning an A-Level as an exchange student from Gakushuin High School when she was in 10th grade. During college days, she already started making films, then transferred to The Slade School of Fine Art, and to New York University. She started making films with the ambition of becoming a film director. After returning to Japan, she started her career as an assistant director to Eiji Okuda who is her father as well as an internationally acclaimed film director. With this critically acclaimed first feature, she is now recognized as Japanese version of Sophia Coppola.
