TEORI Co., Ltd. was established in 1989 as furniture parts maker in Kurashiki city, Okayama prefecture, an area abundant in bamboo and well known for bamboo products. Bamboo plants are useful for environment conservation as they are easy to replant and grow fast. Utilizing these local resources, the company developed laminated bamboo "timber" to produce bamboo furniture. In 2005, six designers with strong ties to the region launched the "laminated bamboo lumber project". In the project, bamboo experts and designers jointly challenged and addressed a myriad problems to create bamboo furniture products, including "NUTS", a line of bowls that feature unique mosaic patterns, and "+PLUS", a line of plates featuring the sturdiness and flexibility of bamboo. The company hopes to contribute to creating a "recycling society" through continued efforts in various areas, including bamboo product development.
