Application for Subsidy Program for Domestic Site Location Is Now Open The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan is accepting applications for a subsidy program aiming to promote new investment, maintain and create jobs in Japan, and improve the site location environment for companies in Japan. The program aims at encouraging companies to locate their production bases domestically. These measures will be offered for production bases in the fields of parts and materials which constitute the core part of the supply chain and cannot be substituted, as well as high added value growth sectors which will create employment in Japan.*Applications are accepted from April 6th, 2012 to no later than June 1st, 2012*
More than 70 Well-Known Brands Attend the Tohoku Textiles Tradeshow
The Tohoku Regional Textiles/Knits Manufacturer Tradeshow, sponsored by JETRO, was held over two days (Jan 18th - 19th) at the luxury New York hotel, The Setai New York. A total of 16 companies (5 textile companies & 11 knit companies) participated from the Tohoku area, lining up booths in approximately 230 square meters of space. Over the course of the event, over 70 renowned U.S. apparel brands visited and conducted business meetings including buyers from Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Theory, and Juicy Couture.When Jhane Barnes, a menswear designer and a member of the largest fashion industry organization in the U.S., the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), informed the organization's president, Diane von Furstenberg, about the business talks, she provided unprecedented support by sending a notice to all members of the organization. More than 10 of the companies who attended had received that notice...
Japanese Exhibitors Find Success @ NYIGF 2012
With over 36000 visitors and over 2700 exhibitors in attendance, this year's New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) was, once again, a huge success for the 26 Japanese exhibitors under JETRO's 14th annual Japan Pavilion.Japanese goods have been increasingly popular at NYIGF in recent years, a reflection of the trend towards the simple and timeless, but modern, designs that Japanese companies offer. In this tough economy, many consumers are attracted to items that won't go out of style but are still unique, even when the cost is a little higher. This year was no different, as all of the exhibitors under the Japan Pavilion received plenty of positive attention including visits from over 20 major U.S. companies....

Pittsburgh-based American Eagle Outfitters Inc. staged the brand's most successful global opening in Tokyo this April. The brand opened two stores in the market. The first store, located in a Tokyu Grand Plaza, a new retail development located at the intersection of Harajuku & Omotesando, opened on April 18 and is the retailer's first large-scale flagship store outside of the United States. The second Tokyo store opened April 19, it is an 8,500-sq.-ft. space located in a brand new shopping mall, Diver City, in Odaiba on Tokyo Bay. Both stores offer the complete line of men's and women's apparel and accessories as well as some NYC and web only exclusive styles. Aerie, the company's lingerie brand is also carried in both locations offering a range of bras, undies and apparel for the female customer. The customer response in Tokyo has already been extremely positive and the brand looks forward to opening two more stores in the Japanese market in the second half of 2012.
