Application for New Subsidy Program Now Open for Innovative Low-Carbon Tech-Intensive Industries 
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is accepting applications for a subsidy program targeting Innovative Low-Carbon Technology-Intensive Industries. It's aim is to promote the growth of the low-carbon industry which sustains regional economies and to increase industrial plant locaton in Japan. Support will be offered to companies planning to make a facility investment for developping manufacturing methods of cutting-edge "low-carbon products" using innovative technology leading to the effective reduction of Carbon Dioxide.
*Applications are accepted from june 1st, 2012 to no later than July 31st, 2012*

Japanese Companies Emerge as Growing Source of Capital for Foreign Medical Device Companies
March was an important month for Japanese overseas investment in the medical device sector as Asahi Kasei announced its intention to acquire Zoll, a US manufacturer of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for $2.2BN USD. Asahi Kasei, like many other Japanese medical device companies, has significant domestic resources and infrastructure but is aggressively looking for opportunities to expand beyond Japan and build a stronger global product portfolio. Pharmaceuticals and Medicinal Devices Agency (PMDA): History, Structure and Vision
Responsible for the review and monitoring of products for medicinal use, the PMDA's mission is to protect the public health by assuring safety, efficacy, and quality of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. In it's current structure, the PMDA is a relatively young organization. Formed out of the merger of several other government agencies in April 2004, it was established to facilitate the scientific review of medical products and to promote the development of medical science. The PMDA has a number of missions and tasks, but it's vision can be defined and is implemented through a series of 5-year plans...

Japanese Games Breaking Into U.S. Markets
According to Game Connection 2012 organizers, over 800 companies from 56 different countries attended the event to conduct business meetings. Among those, over 200 gaming companies, from more than 35 countries and regions of North America, Europe, Asia, South and Central America and other parts of the world showed their interest in Japanese games. The game industry worldwide is shifting rapidly toward social and casual games with the rise of smartphones and tablet PCs. According to the Famitsu Game White Paper 2012 (ENTERBRAIN, INC.), social games in Japan saw a dramatic rise in sales volume -- almost doubling from 112.0 billion yen in 2010 to 211.7 billion yen in 2011. Many SNS and social gaming companies have made the move to the San Francisco area in the past few years.
