Toshiba, Nakaya and Amkor Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Form Joint Venture for System LSI Assembly and Test Service
April 28, 2009

Nakaya Microdevices Corporation, Amkor Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMKR) and Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) announced the signing of "a non-binding memorandum of understanding expressing their intent to form a joint venture in Japan that will provide system LSI assembly and testing services."

Toshiba plans to contribute to the joint venture "the system LSI back-end process operations of its Japan-based, wholly owned semiconductor packaging company, Toshiba LSI Package Solutions Corporation (TPACS)" and "wafer probing equipment." Amkor is to contribute "its manufacturing expertise, sales support, technical assistance, planning and procurement services and other support."

TechSmith, Provider of Screen Capture and Recording Software, Opens New Office in Japan
April 29, 2009

TechSmith Corporation, a provider of screen capture and recording software for individual and professional use, announced the opening of an office in Japan. Bill Hamilton, president and founder of TechSmith, said the main focus of the Japan office is "to increase its sales and overall presence in the Asian market," including Japan, China, Korea and Australia.

Digital Media Delivery Systems Provider, MOD Systems, Establishes Japan Subsidiary
May 4, 2009

MOD Systems®, a provider of digital media delivery systems for retailers, announced the opening of a Japan subsidiary, MOD Systems Japan Incorporated (MOD-J). In cooperation with strategic investors Toshiba and NCR Corporation, MOD-J will "drive business development efforts in Japan and surrounding markets." Anthony Bay, Chairman and CEO of MOD Systems, said, "Our close relationships with Toshiba and NCR allow MOD to expand quickly into the Japan market. We anticipate that Japan, with its highly mobile consumer market and propensity for self-service, will be a great first market for MOD to deploy internationally."

Aperio Technologies, Inc. (Aperio), a provider of digital pathology solutions for the healthcare and life sciences industry, announced the establishment of a subsidiary in Tokyo, Japan. The company has been working in Japan through a distributor and has established the subsidiary to meet growing demand for its digital pathology solutions in a market that "has emerged as an important strong-hold for the company in the past two years."
