Soliris(R) Receives Orphan Drug Designation in Japan January 12, 2009 "Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALXN) today reported that Soliris(R) (eculizumab), its first-in-class complement inhibitor, has been designated as an orphan drug by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. As a result of the designation, a New Drug Application (NDA) for Soliris would receive priority review from the Japanese regulatory authorities once it is submitted, and the drug would have 10 years of market exclusivity as a treatment for patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) in Japan...The Company has begun to establish its commercial organization in Japan in anticipation of a commercial launch of Soliris in that country in 2010." Two New R&D Labs for Afton Chemical in Asia Pacific January 16, 2009 "Afton Chemical Corporation announces two new research and development facilities in Asia Pacific. A new facility in Shanghai, China will be opening in early 2009 and a new and expanded facility in Tsukuba, Japan has recently commenced operations. OBN Holdings Establishes Subsidiary in Japan; Subsidiary Responsible for Japanese Operations February 11, 2009 "OBN Holdings (Pink Sheets: OBNI) announces the establishment of OBN Holdings Japan Co., Ltd..."...We have already begun developing strategic relationships with a number of major Japanese companies, and plan to aggressively pursue our acquisition business model throughout the country." OBN Holdings Japan is responsible for identifying potential acquisitions and business opportunities, and for developing strategic relationships in the region..." Shire Announces Opening of Office in Japan February 20, 2009 "Shire plc (LSE: SHP, NASDAQ: SHPGY), the global specialty biopharmaceutical company, announced today that it has officially opened a new representative office in Japan...Shire's new office in Shinkujuku Ward, Tokyo, will serve as the base for preparations for the future commercialization of its pipeline products in Japan, the second largest biopharmaceutical market in the world...'The unique regulatory, clinical and cultural characteristics of the Japanese market require an early investment in infrastructure to maximize the potential in this strategically important region...'" Restek Opens Branch Office In Japan February 23, 2009 "Restek is pleased to announce the opening of a new branch office in Japan.
