Organization Name: Biotechnology Industry Organization

The 2011 BIO International Convention, presented by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), will be held in Washington, DC, on June 27-30. This annual conference is the world's largest biotech & life sciences industry meeting. More than 15,000 people representing over 1,700 companies and organizations participated in BIO 2010.

Once again, JETRO is organizing the Japan Pavilion during the BIO Convention and will welcome 18 biotech companies. The Japanese delegates will be on hand to talk about their most recent advances in stem cell research, drug development and diagnostic tools. These organizations are eager to network with the American pharmaceutical and biotechnology community and are especially interested in opportunities for collaboration and licensing.

On Thursday, June 30, JETRO will present an international case study entitled "Japan's Regulatory Reform and Open Innovation Policy: Assisting Global Development of Innovative Drugs." Representatives from Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will discuss recent regulatory reforms and new policy initiatives by designed to speed up innovation and encourage strategic alliances.
