In U.S. department stores, it is extremely difficult to find fashionable socks and stockings like those sold in Japan. It is also next to impossible to find legwear coordinates that can be worn as layers, as well as socks or stockings with lam? or lace. GiGi K is a shop that sells the type of legwear that can be found in Japan in Manhattan, New York.

The first GiGi K store was opened in January 2010 in Greenwich Village. Since then, its visibility has increased through word of mouth and it has grown so much that a second store was opened several blocks away. The stores carry dressy and elegant legwear that cannot be found elsewhere.

Gigi Kwon, the owner, is a Korean designer who studies fashion design at Bunka Women's University in Japan and learned fashion marketing at Parson's School of Design in New York. GiGi KShe has experience as an intern with Vivian Tam and has a built a career as a designer in both Japan and the U.S.

GiGi K products, which are marked with a 'Made in Japan' label, are characterized by dainty stitch designs created at the legwear manufacturing company Shizuo Knitting in Saitama Prefecture. Shizuo Knitting's torchon lace technique is highly respected in Japan, as well. GiGi K customers are attracted by the collections created through collaboration between Kwon and Shizuo Knitting each season.
