The Green L.A. Initiative and Los Angeles' Environmental and Water Issues

Thursday, April 24, 2008, 10:00AM
ENGLISH
JETRO Event

Background:
The City of Los Angeles unveiled the visionary "Green L.A. Initiative" last year, aimed at making Los Angeles one of the most environmentally sustainable cities in the world. How will this policy affect you and the region in which you live? What opportunities does it present? Learn this and more at this seminar organized by the Japan Business Association, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California and JETRO Los Angeles, with support from the Japan-America Society of Southern California.

In the second in our series of green seminars, Romel Pascual, Associate Director of Energy and Environment at the L.A. Mayor's Office and principal drafter of much of the Green L.A. Initiative, and Lillian Kawasaki, an elected Director of the Water Replenishment District of Southern California, will discuss the far-reaching scope of the Green L.A. Initiative and the serious environmental and water issues that prompted Los Angeles to draft the policy. The City of Los Angeles has the ambitious target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 35% below 1990 levels by 2030. L.A. is currently evaluating green energy, LEED certified buildings, energy and water efficiency, conservation, recycling, urban planning and cleaning up the port and airport, and other ways of achieving its targets. To achieve these goals, the City of L.A. is seeking an open dialogue and cooperation with businesses, so take advantage of this event to let your voice be heard. We hope to see you at this exciting seminar.
