Shochu

Thursday, February 10, 2011, 2:00PM - 8:30PM
ENGLISH
JETRO Event

Majority of the people in the U.S. may think "Sake" when they think of Japanese alcohol. However, in Japan, "Shochu" is a lot more popular than the Japanese rice wine. Shochu usually contains 25% alcohol by volume, which is weaker than hard liquor but stronger than wine, and is commonly distilled from barley, sweet potatoes, or rice. The more creative ones include brown sugar, corn, or soba shochu.

From fruit cocktails to straights, shochu has many different forms, but it has increased its popularity due to fact that it is easier to pair up with food compared to sake and its reputation as a low-calorie drink whose few calories are converted to heat by the body and emitted. Join us on this venture and find your favorite shochu out of 50 high-end selections from 16 Japanese shochu suppliers!
