Background:
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) allocated $787 billion in economic investment for the purpose of stimulating the national economy. Among other provisions, the ARRA provides a combination of tax incentives, direct spending, and loan guarantees to be administered through the Department of Energy to encourage the development of renewable energy and green building programs to reduce dependence on foreign oil, reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses, and promote economic recovery by preserving and creating jobs in the fields of green and sustainable technology. Additional measures are being pursued at the State and local level to encourage the production of renewable energy and promote greater energy efficiency in new and existing buildings. Patrick Perry is an attorney with Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP who is familiar with current efforts to provide funding and other incentives to spur the development of green building and renewable energy projects in California. Patrick is also a registered architect in the State of California and a LEED-AP. Patrick will discuss the nature of the variou programs and identify procedures according to which representatives of the green building and renewable energy industries can take advantage of new opportunities for the development and implementation of emerging technologies.
