JETRO Robotics Zone @ CES 2010

Thursday, January 7, 2010 - Sunday, January 10, 2010
ENGLISH
JETRO Event

The emerging service robotics industry of Japan will be on display in the JETRO Robotics Zone at the 2010 International CES Show in Las Vegas. Located within the Robotics TechZone in the North Hall, the JETRO Robotics Zone will feature some of Japan's leading robotics technology to further promote the commercialization of service robotics.

CES attendees will be the first to see the new I-Fairy receptionist robot from Kokoro Co. Ltd., which is a leading robotics and animatronics firm in Japan. Developed as a reception or guidance robot, the I-Fairy robot can detect and interact with humans to provide information in an intelligent and friendly manner. Equipped with voice recognition in English or Japanese, the I-Fairy can also interact directly with a video screen to communicate information to humans.

In addition to the I-Fairy robot, Paro Robots US will feature the therapeutic seal robot Paro. The lovable furry robot was introduced to the US market in 2008 with assistance from JETRO Chicago, and has recently received Class II exempt pre-marketing notification from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to officially begin sales in the US. Designed as a baby harp seal, Paro provides psychological, physiological and social benefits to patients in nursing homes and hospitals suffering from ailments such as Alzheimer's or dementia.

JETRO Chicago will provide information on the service robotics industry of Japan and highlight several specialized robotics technology clusters within Japan.
