Post-Event Summary: Japanese Green Technology Companies Make Headway In U.S. Market At Greenbuild International Conference & Expo

Greenbuild 2012

November 2012 - The Greenbuild Conference & Expo 2012 is a two-day event held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from November 14 - 15, 2012. This year, JETRO organized the Japan Booth featuring two exceptional green tech companies: Alter Buildings Japan and Mayekawa USA(MYCOM).

MYCOM is a manufacturer of industrial refrigeration compressors & equipment focusing on new levels of efficiency, energy saving solutions, and cutting-edge products worldwide. As a thermal engineering company established in 1924, Mayekawa Manufacturing Company has a long history of innovation and success. Their energy efficient, environmentally friendly products use only natural refrigerants and cutting-edge Japanese technologies to produce effective refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Troy Davis of MYCOM USA

Mr. Troy Davis, Western Region Energy Manager for MYCOM, is a veteran to the tradeshow circuit. When asked about his impression of the Greenbuild expo in particular, he described his surprise and enthusiasm for the number of architects attending the show. In the past, MYCOM has concentrated its efforts in building relationships with mechanical engineers to establish the use of their products in building construction. "As the market for green technologies has evolved, however, architects are progressively influential in the development of green buildings. Making connections with these architects and introducing them to MYCOM's products will be increasingly important to the company's business in the U.S.," explained Mr. Davis.

Mr. Davis believes there is huge potential for MYCOM's products in the U.S. market. The company's exceptional history of quality products and service make it stand out among the competition. Moving forward, MYCOM will continue to evolve to meet the needs of their customers and further develop their market share in the U.S. refrigeration industry.

Alter Buildings Japan was also pleased with their success at Greenbuild Expo. Alter Buildings has built a reputation for excellence in the Japanese market with their innovative A.I. Building Energy Management System. After evaluating the building, company specialists present a customized treatment package. Once the Alter buildings unit is installed in to a building, it provides constant feedback to the main monitoring database which uses the Alter Buildings' A.I. algorithm to reinforce best practices for energy consumption. This works to make real-time adjustments to the main energy sources such as gas, water, and electric. The result is a continuous, cost-saving A.I. management service that can significantly reduce everyday energy usage.

Satoshi Kohara of Alter Buildings Japan

The Alter Buildings system had been installed in many sites throughout Japan including the Pacific Yokohama Convention Center. The Greenbuild Expo, however, marked the company's first venture into the U.S. market. Satoshi Kohara, Director for Alter Buildings Japan, described the Greenbuild Expo as a starting point for the company. Their current goals include finding partners companies, new projects in the U.S., and gaining important market information from other companies attending the expo. With these tools, Alter Buildings Japan sees a successful future for their unique products and outstanding services in the U.S. market.

Organized by USGBC, Greenbuild International Conference & Expo is the world's largest conference and exposition dedicated to the growing industry of green building. According to bccresearch.com, the U.S. green technology industry will grow to over $88 billion in 2013. Clean building alone will account for over $28 billion of the market share in 2013, only just trailing clean energy at $30.6 billion. Japan's green technology industry is experiencing a similar growth and JETRO seeks to support this trend through the Green Innovations Partnership Program Companies like Mayekawa USA and Alter Buildings Japan participate in this program which gives members the opportunity to connect with cutting-edge Japanese green technologies and expertise, develop business, and forge strategic partnerships. With the help of the JETRO-organized Japan Booth at the Greenbuild Expo, both companies were able to showcase their unique products and make important connections with potential U.S. partners as an important step in developing their U.S. business.

Mayekawa Manufacturing Company has expanded its business by focusing on freezing and compression technologies ever since its establishment in 1924. As a thermal engineering company we have long contributed to providing business solutions to our customers based on these technologies and in turn continuously evolved our technology and services. This process is indicative of our business development style whereby Mayekawa creates 'cooperation' based on trust with our customers to develop 'Basho,' Mayekawa's unique concept of problem solving in which Mayekawa engineers and our customers collaborate closely by sharing a common challenge and vision, and synthesizing knowledge without functional/organizational boundaries.
