The Eco-Model Cities Project is a program established by the Japanese government to create and promote a Low-Carbon Society on a city level, domestically and worldside. 6 cities were selected originally and 7 more cities have since been selected, with great diversity in size and type. All prominently feature activities and future plans to achieve drastic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of the Eco-Model Cities Project is to promote and spread a multi-sectoral approach composed of integrated and coordinated efforts in transportation, energy, waste and forest conservation.
