Japan is clearly a leader among Countries around the world relative to the wireless telecommunications industry, whereby there are currently a reported 73,900,000 mobile phone users and other implementing technologies. Japan's rapid growth in the wireless communications market is derived from software and content developers, device manufactures, wireless carriers and marketers.

In an unprecedented effort to highlight this significant phenomenon, JETRO co-sponsored a seminar with the USC Annenberg School of Communication & Center of Telecom Management (CTM) on February 25, 2003 titled; "Wireless in Japan; Accessing Opportunities in Japan's Wireless Market". The main purpose of this seminar was to create opportunities for wireless communication businesses in southern California to access entry into the Japanese market, while simultaneously offering a networking opportunity among attendees. Over 60 participants attended the event, which included but not limited to, representatives from local businesses and universities. JETRO invited four notable speakers to participate in the seminar, including two from Japan. Those speakers were as follows:
