Presented by
Max DuBuisson
Business Development Associate
California Climate Action Reserve
Background:
Climate change issues are complex and rapidly evolving, and it is becoming more important than ever for businesses to become educated on their own greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as actions that they can take to address them. California has already passed the landmark climate change legislation, AB32, which will soon affect industries here in the state. At the same time, two large regional initiatives, RGGI (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative) and WCI (Western Climate Initiative) are being developed, and a national climate policy is not far away.
Max DuBuisson will discuss the history and current programs of the California Climate Action Registry, highlighting three actions that companies can take to combat climate change: 1) GHG emission inventories, 2) GHG offset projects, and 3) taking part in the discussion on current climate policies and initiatives. The first action involves our sister organization, The Climate Registry, whose program includes voluntary and mandatory emissions reporting throughout most of North America. The second action involves The Climate Action Reserve, a program of CCAR which is fast becoming the premier source for high-quality carbon offsets in the United States. The third action involves the Climate Action Institute, a program of CCAR through which companies can participate in the climate policy discussion. He will also discuss how these programs fit with current and future climate change legislation, especially cap and trade emissions reduction schemes.
