JETRO @ BIO2009

Japan has both the world's second largest economy and the second largest biotech market, after the U.S. This year's Japan Pavilion in this leading annual event 2009 BIO International Convention will features 16 exhibitors, many of them pioneers in such fields as biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and regenerative medicine. Firms will be presenting their leading-edge technologies, products and services on this key global stage. And JETRO will provide the seminar entitled "Cutting-edge Regenerative Medicine in Japan and the 'Super Special Consortia' for Advanced Medicine" at the BIO International Research and Development Presentation. We look forward to active business talks with prospective partners.

International Research and Development Presentation
Dates: May 18th (Mon) 4:00-4:30pm
Venue: Georgia World Congress Center Room B308
Speaker: Seiji Hirasaki, Consultant
Session Title: "Cutting-edge Regenerative Medicine in Japan and the 'Super Special Consortia' for Advanced Medicine"

Amid rapid progress in life sciences and biotechnology, the fruits of Japan's bio firms are ready for harvest. Leading-edge research is beginning to yield a range of innovative products, from autologous epithelium cell transplantation, now in global clinical trials, to iPS cell technology, an area in early stages but with huge promise. Backed by government schemes to encourage innovation, Japan's biotech firms have moved out of stagnation and are now adding to the industry's progress. One such scheme, the "Super Special Consortia," allows for flexibility in R&D projects in such priority fields as regenerative medicine and iPS cell research. This session will discuss these and other topics.
