JETRO has a long history of helping companies expand their business between Japan and the rest of the world. Established in 1958 by the Japanese government, JETRO’s original mission was to promote the export of Japanese products. However, as the Japanese government came to recognize a need for bringing foreign businesses to Japan, JETRO broadened the scope of its operations and opened subsidiary branches in over 50 countries around the world. Now, in addition to helping its domestic businesses expand, JETRO also works to promote foreign direct investment by encouraging overseas businesses to bring their operations to Japan—a process that stimulates healthy competition, provides new employment opportunities, and improves Japan’s overall economy. |
