With the surge in popularity of Asian films in the West coinciding with the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, JETRO is pleased to announce its co-presentation of the Asian Film Night reception, a celebratory reception for Asian filmmakers. AFIN Night is an excellent opportunity to meet producers and directors of Japanese and Korean films being screened at the festival, as well as leaders of Japan and Korea’s film industries. New York-Tokyo Music Festival @ Central Park in NYC

New York-Tokyo, a New York based media communications company dedicated to establishing a cultural and creative bridge between Japan and New York through animation, games, music and urban lifestyle (from fashion to personal robots), will hold another New York-Tokyo Music Festival this year at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. There will be live DJ sets in the afternoon and live music performances at night.

Forest of Words: The Origin of Japanese Kanji Ideograms

Through the Japan Foundation’s international program, two outstanding figures working in collaboration, Tetsuji Atsuji, Professor, Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, Kyoto University and Hirokazu Kosaka, Artistic Director of Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, will explore the evolution of Chinese ideograms with an intimate lecture and calligraphic demonstration. The event will take place at the JACCC Aratani/Japan America Theatre. Locations and schedules are as follows:
