Positive Outlook for Japanese Economy Drives Increase in Investment Appeal

(LAS VEGAS, JANUARY 3, 2005)--The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) announced that 25 North American companies will participate in this year's personalized business matching program taking place at the annual International Consumer Electronics Show, January 5-8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program provides North American technology companies interested in establishing a business presence in Japan with direct access to leading Japanese companies. Past participants in the program include industry leaders such as Epson, Sony, Hitachi, Toshiba, and Panasonic. This year, at least 20 leading Japanese companies will participate marking a significant increase in both the number of North American and Japanese companies seeking potential business relationships through JETRO's program.

The JETRO Business Matching @ CES 2006 program facilitates one-on-one pre-arranged business meetings between program participants and Japanese companies by providing North American firms qualified introductions to some of the world's most distinguished consumer electronics companies. This year, 55 applications were submitted for participation in the program, which included a mix of new and returning businesses looking to initiate additional contacts.

"The presence of returning companies speaks to the strength and value of our business matching programs," said Masahiko Hosokawa, president of JETRO's New York office. "JETRO's focus on facilitating mutually beneficial meetings between U.S. and Japanese companies, and providing matching services that cannot be found anywhere else, helps fuel economic growth for both countries. As barriers for entry to the Japanese economy are broken, an entrepreneurial sprit has emerged - bold new start-ups are looking to grow and prosper by partnering with larger, more established companies."

This year, Japanese companies are searching for innovative technologies from North American firms in the ICT and consumer electronics industry sectors, with backgrounds including, but not limited to, the following technologies: VoIP, RFID, Wireless & Wireless Security, Security Solutions, Digital TV Technologies, Consumer Electronics, Mobile Applications/Contents.

Through free programs and services such as these, JETRO provides strong support to North American companies looking for successful entry and expansion in the Japanese market. JETRO also holds a similar business matching event every year in Japan at Asia's largest IT trade show, CEATEC JAPAN.
