Japanese companies participating in the 2004 partnering program at CEATEC included Epson, Fujitsu, Hitachi, NEC, Nissho Electronics, NTT Communications, Panasonic, Ricoh, Sanyo, Sony, and Toshiba. In total JETRO arranged over 220 meetings between U.S. and Japanese companies, averaging over 11 meetings per company. As a direct result of these meetings, several participants later signed agreements with Japanese partners. In addition to business matching and participation at CEATEC 2005, companies will be given the opportunity to gain insights on recent trends in the Japanese market during sessions led by industry analysts and experts. Relevant topics will be covered in order to provide participants with the market intelligence which will translate into business results. CEATEC: FOCUSING ON THE UBIQUITOUS ERA The theme of CEATEC (Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies) 2005 is the Advancing Ubiquitous Society, focusing on a sector that in Japan is projected to grow to approximately $557 billion USD by the end of 2005. Japanese companies hold the world’s top share in digital home devices (including game consoles and digital cameras), and Japan is quickly developing as the industry leader of integrated ubiquitous markets. All the major Japanese players will showcase their latest technologies at CEATEC 2005, providing opportunities to network and find future partners. In order to provide multiple opportunities for deal-making, participant companies will take part in business meetings with Japanese companies, arranged by JETRO free of charge. Last year 20 companies participated in JETRO's Business Partnering Program during CEATEC 2004, and as one participant put it, "I had good meetings with good companies, and am now seriously considering investing in a joint venture with a Japanese partner."
