JETRO hosting over 50 Japanese biotech-related companies at world’s largest biotech gathering

(NEW YORK, JUNE 13 2005)- To continue building upon the rapid growth of collaborations in Japan's biotechnology industry, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will host a delegation of over 50 Japanese biotech-related companies attending the upcoming Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) 2005 trade show in Philadelphia, PA from June 19-22.

In the Japan Pavilion located at the BIO 2005 exhibition hall, a wide range of Japan's biotechnology sector will be represented, from corporations that develop pharmaceuticals such as gene therapies and anti-cancer drugs to universities and research institutes seeking to license the technologies which they have developed.

In addition to the Japan Pavilion activities, JETRO will host several other Japan-related events during BIO 2005, including a Japan biotech seminar and a Japan Pavilion reception.  JETRO will also co-host a Japan networking night reception for more than 500 people on Monday, June 20th.

"Japan's biotech sector continues to grow rapidly and attract biotech professionals, investment  and industry partners from around the world as a result of our country’s government commitment, research and development backing, strict intellectual property protection and abundance of highly trained scientists,” said Masahiko Hosokawa, president of JETRO’s New York office.

Added Mr. Hosokawa, “The companies coming to BIO 2005 from Japan want to showcase their innovative technologies to the world, and are looking for partnerships.  JETRO hopes that BIO 2005 will be yet another step in building on the rapid growth of collaborations in an's biotechnology industry."
