JETRO will organize a Japan Startup Pavilion at TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2014, a high-profile technology conference that connects start-up companies with IT leadership. Twelve Japanese start-ups in IT, manufacturing, life science, and biotechnology will showcase their cutting-edge technologies at the Japan/JETRO booth aiming to develop new customers and seek for funding to expand business in the world.

Launched in 2013, JETRO's Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) provides comprehensive support to the bright and ambitious Japanese start-ups in IT, manufacturing, life science, and biotechnology who seek to expand their businesses in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. At TechMatch, ten Japanese start-ups of SVIP will gather in San Francisco on the 11th of September and Palo Alto on the 12nd of September to demonstrate their technologies and discuss in-depth business opportunities with corporate leaders and representatives. JETRO New York will be holding a special seminar at the New York Hilton Midtown titled, “Invest Japan Seminar: Measures to Increase Foreign Direct Investment in Japan”.
This conference aims to inform U.S. companies and organizations on one of the important measures prompted by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, doubling the amount of direct investment in Japan to 35 trillion yen by 2020. Government officials and successful industry leaders will give an insight on opportunities for new and existing foreign companies that look to expand or build their presence in Japan. For over four decades, business leaders and top-level representatives from member states and prefectures from the Midwest region of the United States and Japan have met on an annual basis to discuss the growth and progress of economic relations of the American Midwest and Japan. The theme of this year’s 46th Annual Midwest U.S-Japan Association Conference is “Building a Robust and Sustainable Future”, and will be held in Des Moines, Iowa. JETRO President Satoshi Miyamoto, will moderate Plenary Session II: Executive Panel Discussion - “Renewable Technology and Environmental Solutions” on September 8th. Seven Midwest Governors are planning to attend, representing Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Two Governors will be traveling from Japan, Hon. Kiyoshi Ueda (Saitama Prefecture) and Hon. Shomei Yokouchi (Yamanashi Prefecture).
The conference will kick off with opening keynote remarks by Wendy Cutler, Deputy, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), and Hon. H.E. Kenichiro Sasae, Japanese Ambassador to the United States. Both Consul Generals responsible for the Midwest will also be in attendance, Hon. Masaharu Yoshida, Consulate General of Japan at Chicago, and Hon. Kazuyuki Katayama, Consulate-General of Japan in Detroit.
